Eddie Murphy cleared the air on this one in the movie "Raw" & so did Martin Lawrence in "RunTelDat." He saw the cover of a magazine with Johnny Carson on it. His ex-wife won the divorce settlement case & she was awarded some large sum of money. Eddie said that if the two built $300,000,000, then she is w/o a doubt entitled to half. However, when the two met Johnny was already a millionaire therefore she was entitled to her original bagful of clothes. Only in the state of California are women AUTOMATICALLY AWARDED half the marital assets with a chance to work on their husband's other half. I personally think a woman should get half if she was a TRUE HOUSEWIFE who kept the house up while her husband worked. If she's one of these celebrity-like housewives who get maids to do all the housework & nannies for the children while reclining at the spa ALL DAY, then she deserves some training in the real world by living on a budget comprised of what she can earn.

I believe in splitting half once your married. Because it's all legal. As a woman if you want half a anything get married. If your not married and you don't feel like your man's sharing the wealth and it's that important to you, then Bail!! MJ's wife sat at home and took care of those children, putting her life on hold. *Like I was there when they had this convo* So she deserves half. I don't have kids, but I was one and I see all my friends do it. It's hard as shit and the most underpaid job alive!!!

im gonna have to disagree with you lolita, when you have MJ money who dont have to do regular house wife duties! most times theres a hired maid, chef and nanny so its hard to really say shes entitled to half because shes taking care of home.

I'll give you that a partime job can be had after the kid starts school, but nothing grand like a career...
Do you realize what it takes to run a home without outside help? I tried it for 6 months after my daughter was born and her older sister was in kindergarten and it was WORK.
Stuff needs to be cleaned everyday, there's cooking everyday, food shopping for that cooking, random household errands for the home AND working parent, school obligations (PTA, etc). It's WORK!!
Even with both in school right now, there are not enough hours in the day to get things done... I'm just sayin...

this is a shakey subject. If i met you with 50 million and we break up, im leaving with my 50 million. If i meet you and i dont have shit and you're with me when I (emphasis on the I) build that 50 million then YES you are entitled to SOMETHING. I dont for one second tho think that a woman should get half of a man's earnings (unless she was a 50% owner in his ventures) BUT i do think she should be compensated.

It depends on the scenario. I think if the woman actually made significant contributions and helped to acquire the wealth, then of course she deserves her taste.It's just ffucked up because the system is set up in such a way that a chick that's full of game can work a man, and be gone with half his money(ie. Heather Mills/Paul McCartney). On the other hand, if Stedman were to marry Oprah, then divorce her, I think she should send him on his way with what he came with.
