I don't know why but race has never been an issue to me like it is with most folks. I grew up in Decatur, GA (like 90% black) but I never thought that my dating options were restricted to just my own people. I've always looked at men who were attractive regardless of nationality. Throughout highschool I dated black guys and a few hispanics. In college I dated an Asian guy for a while. The man I ended up marrying is a mixture of black, native american, greek and italian. We've been married for seven years now. We get strange looks when we go out because even though he identifies himself as african-american when people see him they assume he's anything but that. Over the years I've pretty much become oblivious to the stares because honestly,. I just don't care that much. Life is too short to base your relationship decisions off of how other people will react to your actions. Sometimes you have to cast a bigger net to catch the right fish. Ladies open yourself up to the ENTIRE dating pool. Many brothers do it, so why can't you?

i agree w/ mo, im bored w/ black man. i live in hampton roads, its diverse out here b/c of the military. but all the black guys seem the same. all they seem to care about it the next lil wayne song and their cars and clothes. i love "foreign" men. my last 3 boyfriends have been "exotic." Guyana, kenya, and nigeria. i want to explore the middle east now. i find the features of an middle eastern man beautiful. the bright eyes hiding behind the dark brawny skin. i like italians also. the furthest i've dated outside of black was puerto rican, but he was mixed w/ black. so not much of a stretch. i could marry outside of my race, my mom wouldnt mind. lol. but to be honest and clear, also a little cliche, love doesnt have a color/ethnicity/race, when u find that person for u, all that is the furthest thing from your mind. good day :)

Well I have been with a West Indian man (Jamaican) for 12 yrs and I have been around enough Jamaicans to know that it is a male dominated society. It's just a simple fact and every Jamaican lady knows it. I mean for example, how many females even drive in Jamaica? A simple act like driving a car is done by 80% men. My 1st b/f was white and and i have also been out with other white guys (Itailian, French etc..) i don't see anything wrong in interracial relationships. I don't know about the states but in the uk interracial relationships are very much excepted. Now that i am older (34) i prefer to date black guys. I have always imagined myself marrying within my own race so who knows.

I too have been on the receiving end of a "lyrical ass whoopin'", so I don't want anybody to think I'm all high and mighty. I just had a good moment. As far as interracial dating goes, I have been saying for a while now that I would like to try something a little different but that shit is difficult. Why? hmmm i open to date any men of any race..but i just cant shake some stereotypes or other thoughts... and i really wish i could..cause then i can have more options..since i do attend a college that is majority white...but i did try to dat a white man once..TRIED...i just couldnt shake the feeling that he just wanted a pretty young black thang on his arm and wanted me just to sex..AND i never know how to approach a white, indian, or any other race....spanish men, no problem, black men..no problem! but its not like they approach me either...or if they do its never during the day, but at night which makes it even more questionable...i dunno maybe its because i live in DC..maybe they're not open minded...

ok... now this is one of my quagmires right here. i was speaking to a good friend of mine who's an italian woman and i told her that i'm ready to unshackle my fears and try different races. she even reminded/warned me about that very issue: white boys fuck black but marry white. now you know like i know that white boys give you that "i will suck your toes if you let me" look on the low and i don't want to be an object of that nature. :-(

I can agree with you on this post here. I've been thinking that I want to test out the water and see how it feels lol. But generally in the south, at least from my perspective, you don't see that much of interacial dating. When you do, there are so many things said and the looks are off the chain. Yea, I might need to take a trip to New York. I just left Las Vegas about 2 weeks ago, and let me say that I was astonished at the adoration of black women. I felt great LOL. Ladies, it's a beautiful thing to find a white man you knows how to blow a sista's back out. I was so caught up with being with a black man that I ignore men from other races. After watching "Something New" starring Sanaa Latham, I decided to give white men a chance. i live in atlanta and i am moving to nyc for some of the reasons you said! it's amazing how masculine some of the men look, and then you find out they take it up the butt. ugh! anyway, i'm a white girl and i usually end up dating outside of my race, mostly because i think (southern) white men are narrow minded, self important, and plain boring. being in the south, it is amazing the amount of negative attention people direct towards you and how someone you don't even know can direct so much hate in your direction. the whole "white dudes have little dicks" thing- i've done the field work and most are not little, so much as just lackluster....it's okay, but nothing to text your girls with a "damn girl, you will not believe this shit!!!!!!! there was one exception, and that guy and his third leg scared the shit out of me. hands down, biggest ever. but in my experience, black men have consistently large penises and even if you're off black men, that shit is undeniable. i'm with you on the blasians..... absolutely beautiful. good luck on your search, keep us updated. i like your articles and look forward to reading more!

I definitely agree w/ you on the NYC thing its something you don't realize until you leave.
Although, I have only dated black men. I am always open to dating someone of any race. It's sad that we(people in general) still think people of certain cultures act certain ways. However, I'm starting to realize why this might be. I think when people date men they tend to date the same time of men. That would explain why black men have gotten so boring. Despite what some people think (people in general again) black men are not all the same nor are white mixed etc. I think the only time we tend to be open to dating someone different is when we are dating some one of a different race (if that makes sense). All I'm saying is that maybe you should try dating different types of black men before you write them off ass boring alongside dating men of other "races."

Ok well I live in ATL and I fully understand your view about the lack of diversity and the Tang that is being spread around these parts.
Yes I think while we are on this earth it is perfectly okay to expierement for the sake of wanting "Something New". Yes I have seen some sex white boys and me and my friend always joke that we are going to go to another County to find us a white boy to mess with.

Its cool and all but I dont want my kids going through that ish...and I want them to be beautiful black children. I want my children to be BLACK & PROUD and I also want a STRONG BLACK MAN! There is nothing like a black man...PERIOD! Black men have the sexiest demeanor to me and that will never change...at least not for me!

Commenters that are bitchin' about the West Indian comment: Chill out ...now you KNOW ..West Indian men are notoriously chauvinistic. Not to the furthest extent all the time, but definitely old-fashioned in their ways of thinking. Don't jump to the defense, just step back and look at it. My entire family is West Indian,mostly Trinidadian.. with a lot of randoms in there, but all the same ... its just a different way of living. Not to say that the men don't grow out of it/change, but if you live in the West Indies/live around West Indians for long enough, you'll understand that it's just a different way of thinking that some Americans aren't really used to.

To all the curious sistas out there, you really need to come to Europe! Interracial dating is so accepted here, it is not even an issue. There are countless mixes of race here, so many beautifull ones (male & female) you would not believe. I live in Rotterdam in the Netherlands and it's more of mix of cultures than any place in the world. And with my parents being from the Capeverdean Islands of whome the people are mostly a mix of African and White ancestors it's not at all weird for me to date outside my race. A lot of black women might want to open their eyes and minds to their (limitless) options when you choose to date outside your race. Sure there are differences, but speaking from my personal experiences these have only been positive experiences. As Loquacious_D said, the white men I've experienced really wooed me! Just go ahead girls, try something new. Lord knows our black brothers are doing it and WE NEED TO CATCH UP!
P.S. This does not mean that I am giving up on my black brother though, still have love for ya! I just the love would be returned now and again!

I agree - i live in London & my husband is black (i'm white) and we've never had any problems from anyone, this is london, anything goes. My husband used to live in NYC and said things were not as easy going there which surpriced me. to me it feels very old fashioned and strange to even think about race in that kind of way - love is what matters in the end and skin colour has got nothing to do with it. We've been together for ten years and so far so good. I personally think that in a relationship, coming from different cultural backgrounds (my husb is west african, i'm scandinavian) makes you open your mind and grow and it makes you learn and respect others and our kids will (hopefully!) be very open minded and with a rich cultural heritage and not believing in many of the rubbish stereotypes floating about.

I would love to date another race, but unfortunately there is not much to choose from here. I'm from a small town in Florida, so I don't have much to choose from. Also, from what I've seen here in the south most of the other races pretty much stick with their own. Men of other races very seldom venture too far out of their racial barriers. What is wrong with the universe? I've actually agreed w/you Mo for your last three posts?!Anyway, the topic of interracial relationships is interesting. I happen to be Black(mom)and Puerto Rican(dad). My father's family always treated me and the sibs like shit b/c we are black. Perhaps, that set the stage for my close mindedness about interracial dates. I would try to rep mom. However, I attended preparatory school and a highly selective college. White boys galore. Some of them were fly as hell and trying to date me. However, b/c my mom(a former member of the Black Panthers) wasn't trying to hear it. I would never let my interests get farther than a kiss.
But junior year in college studied abroad in both Milan and Tokyo. I had a "relationship" w/a half African/half Italian man. We never did the deed b/c I was scared of the pink penis. Silly now. But Mo, he was packing and fly as hell. I also had the opportunity to date a former professional hockey player/Harvard grad and professional playwright but I was again scared of the pink penis.
A few years before I had my child, I lived in Milan for 9 months for work. I rekindled my relationship w/my boo from Milan. The sex was crazy! Didn't work b/c I was moving back to the US. You know, I kinda know how you feel. I'm of Carribean heritage, and mixed, Black and Chinese. But you know, I've been always trying to "do the black/right thing"! As a black man, I guess I've allways somehow felt guilt and blame for what black men did, or didn't do, so I over-compensated, only dated dark women - still do. But I'm coming to the realization that I've been a fool! Black women have been swirling since jump: Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandrich(spelling) and the likes.
And let's not talk about "black men are doing it" its black women who were sexing white men to create "buffer zones" : Creole's to keep blacks in check, if you look at the election right after apartheid south africa, you'll see what I'm talking bout, go and study it, it's eyeopening! The mistakes I made was to put black women, who were in my orbit, before me; quite literally! I bought cars, down payment for homes, trips, lots of vacations, and for what? Let me tell you, for a while I suffered serious issues behind that, I'm so glad time has passed and I've learned to deal with that.
As far as color within the black community, I've always found dark women more attractive then lighter skinned women, I had a light skinned girl, as a matter a fact my first love love was just that, but something was missing, and I met a dark sister - wow! And let me tell you, I sure did like to clean my plate, at every chance yes maam, I did; now don't get it twisted, I'm not "small", every woman measures her man and I'm average, 7 inches, or that might be below average for a black man; but whatever, I'll not let me not having like 10 inches define me!
I'm not ready to do the white girl thing, funny, it's like after Obama, it's like white women will come up and try to talk to me. But NOT when white men around, not that I really care; I just play it off, like I said, I'm not ready to do white girls! I don't know why, but I've had to tell some that I'm gay just to not have anyone's feelings hurt or to be called a racist.
I can go on and on, but this post and seeing black women and white boys kinda "softens the blows"! At this point in my life, I'll not support Halie Berry nor Oprah, nor this "MarvelousMO" model: in this regard, I'm like white men/boys, do you really think they support Kim Kardashian? "White boys want to see themselves with black women and whoever else; They don't particularly like to see anyother race, especially black men with white women! Funny, it's like I've actually had it like thrown in my face by colleagues: "hey I got a black girl", in a mocking way. It's hard to explain.
I know I must be rambling, but I'm kinda thankfull for this post, as a black man, seeing black women swirl has made me really have to take a long look at me; I'm successful, but have learned not to drive myself because I fear loosing a black woman/women to the swirl; I SHOULD strive, not drive ( in the first place) only cause it makes me happy and gives a feeling of accomplishment; or goals reached - again, I know it makes no sense, but I'm putting it all on the line here!

Inter-racial dating is very accepted in Toronto Canada too. No big deal, men are men and have the same body parts. LOL. Love is Love and really should be colour blind. At the end of the day, even though some people are 'tecnically all one colour", everyone is mixed with many things.
Interesting fact: Inter-racial marriages have a much HIGHER success rate than same race couples!!!
2 biggest non-married groups are: Black women and Asian men, because they won't step out of their 'colour' box.

kinda late, but this topic is interesting. mo, i hear you and respect ur view. i see gorgeous men of other races and i've asked myself, "could i?" and no disrespect but i cringe at the thought no matter how fine they are. if you date or even love a man who isn't black, then girl do ur thing! but i have an involuntary allegiance to the black man, can't help it. they are absolutely beautiful, and when they refuse to buy into the lie--they're regal. but the sad truth is many of them don't see the king that i do when they look in the mirror.

Although, I have only dated black men. I am always open to dating someone of any race. It's sad that we(people in general) still think people of certain cultures act certain ways. However, I'm starting to realize why this might be. I think when people date men they tend to date the same time of men. That would explain why black men have gotten so boring. Despite what some people think (people in general again) black men are not all the same nor are white mixed etc. I think the only time we tend to be open to dating someone different is when we are dating some one of a different race (if that makes sense). All I'm saying is that maybe you should try dating different types of black men before you write them off ass boring alongside dating men of other "races."

Anyways. Call me crazy, but I have a silly personal rule to not date the same race twice in a row. . I don't follow it religiously, but its just a trend I noticed lol .. Good way to open your mind & learn about different cultures.. I don't believe in worrying about what other people say/think about my relationship. I did date a Jamaican for a while and I must say that was some of the best sex I've ever had. His pipe game was on point. His recovery time was bananas and we would go at it all day and night long, like real talk I've never seen anything like it in my life....amazing! He's like the only man that could handle my sex drive. Whew, I miss that. Anyhoo, he wasn't chauvinistic, but he just wasn't worldly enough. It's like he didn't know anything about anything, and asked me so many question that it got to be annoying. I felt like I had another child. So ultimately I let him go because he annoyed the holy f@ck out of me. That goes to show sex isn't everything, lol

Then he felt that it was time for me to meet his family. I live in B-more and we have a section called Little Italy. His family owned 3 restaurants. His mother and father were cool with our relationship, his father even welcomed me to the family, his grandmother was other story completely. She referring to me by every racial epithet she knew..i mean i was every type of porch monkey/nigger you could think of.
But junior year in college studied abroad in both Milan and Tokyo. I had a "relationship" w/a half African/half Italian man. We never did the deed b/c I was scared of the pink penis. Silly now. But Mo, he was packing and fly as hell. I also had the opportunity to date a former professional hockey player/Harvard grad and professional playwright but I was again scared of the pink penis.
A few years before I had my child, I lived in Milan for 9 months for work. I rekindled my relationship w/my boo from Milan. The sex was crazy! Didn't work b/c I was moving back to the US. I realized what is the big deal. Date who you want. Some blk guys are packing some are not. There are trifling ass men of all races. Do you!
the best part of your embarking on the otha[steada brotha side] is learning new culture. in chicago there aren't many people as mixed as i am and niggas str8 niggas. they fit into two boring categoriess[bougoise or ghetto] and i desperately needed MORE. i enjoy learning about other people customs and the stares are fun. i've had black men[ that would never even check for me otherwise] go so far as to buy me drinks and say"nah u know u too pretty to be dealing with that whiteboy."[then slip me a number/card] and my mom wondered if my date would eat cajun food, but those experiences are funny/gradually become less crazy as time goes on.

The mistakes I made was to put black women, who were in my orbit, before me; quite literally! I bought cars, down payment for homes, trips, lots of vacations, and for what? I've put my education on hold and my career so that I can make my black woman happy cause Oprah and Alice Walker told me I wasn't shit - Yes, Oprah sends out subliminal messages like that!
Now you've got someone like Halie Berry, she was supposed to be "for black men, no? A little too light for what I was used to, but whatever. I tell you want I've experienced, white people act really peculiar when they see a happy successful black couple on vacation; it's just something you'll have to experience for yourself to know what I'm talking bout.

Let me tell you, for a while I suffered serious issues behind that, I'm so glad time has passed and I've learned to deal with that.
As far as color within the black community, I've always found dark women more attractive then lighter skinned women, I had a light skinned girl, as a matter a fact my first love love was just that, but something was missing, and I met a dark sister - wow! And let me tell you, I sure did like to clean my plate, at every chance yes maam, I did; now don't get it twisted, I'm not "small", every woman measures her man and I'm average, 7 inches, or that might be below average for a black man; but whatever, I'll not let me not having like 10 inches define me!
I'm not ready to do the white girl thing, funny, it's like after Obama, it's like white women will come up and try to talk to me. But NOT when white men around, not that I really care; I just play it off, like I said, I'm not ready to do white girls! Funny, it's like I've actually had it like thrown in my face by colleagues: "hey I got a black girl", in a mocking way. It's hard to explain.
I know I must be rambling, but I'm kinda thankfull for this post, as a black man, seeing black women swirl has made me really have to take a long look at me; I'm successful, but have learned not to drive myself because I fear loosing a black woman/women to the swirl; I SHOULD strive, not drive ( in the first place) only cause it makes me happy and gives a feeling of accomplishment; or goals reached - again, I know it makes no sense, but I'm putting it all on the line here!
