Your right!! it is all the same. All women can be nice and all can be mean. some light or dark will cook, and some light or dark will get freaky in the bed.

In my opinion, i don't care who you are if your cute men are going to holla, if you are light or dark and are an attractive woman, and you are not being approached. I don't think the lightskinned/darkskinned thing would be such an issue if dark skinned women didn't make it one. I have numerous friends who are dark skinned and are CONSTANTLY bringing up how they are held down becuase of their skin color and how lightskinned women are uplifted. I do think it's a shame that you have to be a certain shade to be considered beautiful by the masses. I've noticed that dark women feel the needs always remind everyone that they are happy to be darkskinned and how/why the are so much more beautiful that lightskinnned women. On the ohter hand, maybe I just don't know what it's like to be darkskinned. Maybe it does make life more difficult.

Internalized racism is real! It's sad that in 2009 we aren't closer to moving past these issues. It's bad enough we are still fighting racism from the outside world, but we are still fighting it from within. When will people realize that all this dark skinned vs light skinned. . .good hair vs bad hair bs was created to hold us back. . . Make them hate themselves while we just sit back & watch. Ok, where ghetto azz town did they film this in? There was only ONE articulate person shown. That is so sad, that these ppl walk the streets thinking this way. We have such a long way to go...so sad.
My co-worker often refers to my skin color, and I find it so offensive. It's obvious she has some self esteem issues, but that is no excuse to be rude and reckless. I tell her that my skin tone has nothing to do with what we are talking about, but she doesn't seem to get my point. I guess I'm going to have to break it down, ALL THE WAY for her. Color-struck people always seem to find a way to involve color. That is one of the most irritating and ignorant things to do. Ugh, I'm annoyed as I type this because she talks about it so much, lol.
I never answered to red, redbone, yella, high yella, or any of the other lame ass cat calls these wack dudes throw at me. I am an intelligent, classy, person. For someone to refer to me as a color in our first moments of meeting is a no-go.
As far as the stereotypes, they are there when you look for them. When that is what you want to see, that is what you will see. I think people need to get it together, we have our priorities all f'd up. To white people, no matter what side of the spectrum you color happens to fall, you are still BLACK. Until that sinks in, this dumb mentality is going nowhere.
I'm so through with this, it really makes me angry...

Its a shame to my race that we even still to this day discuss it

Its no such thing as nappy headed...either you have fine curly texture or coarse hair texture
In my family we have a mixture of all shades because my grandfather is Israeli
Me being dark skinned has never hurt me only when I was in highschool
But you learn to get over shit and not hold negative comments and sterotypes against all people
Everyone has a prefernece and i totally understand that
But i hate when i see a group of man or woman generalizing one group of people because the color of their skin

Wow that vid was scary...what the heck was that i didn't get the memo but are black folks currently fighting amongst each other is this like some kinda new inter-racism movement taking place if that makes any damn sense. I have lightskinned and darkskinned friends and for me they each have different personalities which i appreciate them for. Some bougie, some hood and its not because of their complexion, its because of who they are. I strongly agree with the blog we have our ups and downs as people in general, where you may fail, i might excel and vis a vis, but that expresses our own individualism and its what makes us different. We need to show love for one another regardless of what we look like on the outside farreal, why we being mean towards each because of our skin color, like seriously??? This makes me so livid. I hope we aren't being torn apart because of such ignorant concepts.

I just have to say this. For all of you who think that this is a non-issue in 2009 it is a false hope. The sad thing is lots of younger people have this mentality. For example a classmate of my younger sister told her that he doesn't date black girls in general because of their attitude. What in the hell does that mean? My sister just graduated from high school, and there are dudes there talking about how skin tone affects a girl's personality. But like someone said, a preference is a preference. As long as it isn't coming from that ignorant mental state then what is the problem. I'm a big girl and I've heard people explain that they don't like big girls. And? There are plenty of people who do. (Trust me) But should I get offended when someone says something, no it is just their preference. And I have mine. If you prefer something go for it, but don't generalize an entire group of people.

I HATE this subject with a passion!! It makes the most educated people become educated dummies. It sometimes turns friends against each other [especially if one's light while the other's darker]. Honestly, when I'm eyeing a dude, I really don't notice his skin color (no joke!). Yeah I'm looking at his face and body and stuff, but the color of his skin never sticks out with me. If you're ugly, you're ugly...if you're fine, you're fine; if I'm into you, its definitely not your skin color that attracted me to you in the first place!

But Xilla, in my opinion, this was a great post. Some may view it as ignorant, but it is the way things are really going now. I think you did a good job with showing the pros and cons of each side but then ending it to show the good of each side. Great job...I love it! :)

All my life I felt like a dark skin girl trapped in a light skin girl body because the sterotypes about light skinned girls never suited my personality...except for the after sex drink I love 100% juice is that a light thing I wasn't aware of? I can't stand to hear people talking about how they only date this one because they do this. Or I don't date those kind because they do that. Every person is different, you shouldn't expect for people to be a certain way because of their skin tone or hair texture. Yeah I have to cosign that opinion. Its not a big deal but this whole post, especially the video, just kind of left me depleted.

I just can't tell what it was trying to say, and the unbridled ignorant ass comments in the video ughhh it made my head hurt.
I refuse to believe that any majority of black people still think that way in 2009 and if we do then shame on us.

My 'opininon' on the issue is that everyone can have a preference, even if it is a color preference as long as you know that THATS ALL THAT IT IS. If you like what you like cause you like it, cool. I have preferences of all kinds too.

But this bs about a light skinned girl being a better status symbol, or automatically bourghie, and a dark skinned girl being 'down' and earthy or as was put 'nappy headed', is the type of stuff that breeds all this color sensitivity and confusion.

Its just dumb, can we please stop doing this to ourselves?

The one who is just as comfortable in the board room as she is in the bedroom. I want the woman who is down to earth and real.
