I actually enjoy BHM because it gives my white friends an insight to my culture and the world I live in. I go to a predominately white college and you'd be surprised how ignorant some white people are when it comes to Black history. Every year I have to explain and discuss how the civil rights movement wasnt just about a bus boycott. Or when I talk about Malcolm X and MLKJr they say something dumb like "Malcolm was the bad one right?". And O how i love the look on the girls faces when i tell them they owe their flat irons and straight hair to a black women. They love to hear the story of Madame CJ Walker.It is more an acknowledgment of blacks rather than a celebration. In my opinion we need more months out the year, because without it I feel our culture would be forgotten in the eyes of White America. Its not racist, its educational.

Where is white history month? To ignore the fact the whites, asians, hispanics, jews catholics and christians (all minorities) haven't done a great deal or been through hard times is ignorant. If you need a month where our teachers (white teachers, asian teachers, all teachers) educate our young and our seasoned minds about "black history" then that just shows you are too lazy to spread your history to other people.


"I don’t think white people should ever question Black History Month, they just don’t get it." What don't I get about a selfish, Batantly Racist "Holiday" in which for the whole month My TV is littered with points in Mostly American History of AMAZING things black people have done. When in truth half the things they honor wouldn't even rate an Honorable mention if it were any other time of the year.

We "whites" just don't get it because we (or any other race) has been babied and carried as much as you "blacks"

Every month is white history month. It wouldn't hurt if you knew some of the history behind the celebration, it may bring understanding. Look up Carter G. Woodson, the founder of Black History week, to get some insight. He set the week up to coincide with Frederick Douglass' birthday as a way to instill pride in his fellow Black Americans. For people who were systematically written off, it was important to know that they contributed to the betterment of society at large. The same is true today. For the record there is an Asian History Month and a Latino History Month for the same reasons.

Oddly enough, I agree with the little booger... HOWEVER, You just don't question things of this magnitude. You'll set the ABW's off, b/c they're crazy like that... Yet in still, Who is he to make such a claim? Hell, Who is anybody? (But that's a totally separate blog, so I wont go there). Nonetheless, I respect his audacious demeanor, at least he "Googled" a few facts before his preview, give him some cred... lol

Which leads me to ask, When was the last time you "celebrated" BHM? Exactly, nucca! Personally, I have not celebrated Black History Month since Mrs. Sherly's class. Ignorance??? I believe not, hence, my under and post-grad studies have consisted of other relevant topics.

My apologies, if I have offended anyone. After all, this is the comment section... I'll say whatever tha fux I feel like!!!

I don't think he's a racist but he didn't have to call the idea of black history stupid. I feel where he's coming from to a certain extent. I think Black History Month is just a celebration of the accomplishments of blacks and how far we have come along. If there wasn't a black history then white people probably wouldn't even know about half of what black people invented. We damn near made everything!

A big part of American History is the white man coming over and taking the land from the Indians, then getting blacks on ships from Africa and making them slaves. Nobody wants to celebrate that.

wow... I could've used this dude on my show tonight.

I also don't believe he's racist and I see his point, but he's too Hands Across America with it. Of course that's how it SHOULD be- American history encompassing EVERYTHING- but that's not the reality so in the meantime, BHM and all the other months dedicated to other non-WASP cultures are needed to educate the masses.

Maybe one day we won't need it... not in MY lifetime but maybe one day...

i dont think hes racist. I do get his point but i cant really agree with it. My take on it is this, February is the month that we celebrate Black History, the same way we (or Whomever) assigned specific day out of the year to celebrate certain historical figures or events. People are educated on these people/events everyday but they have a specific date when it is celebrated exclusively. Same thing with Black History expect its celebrated for a month instead of a day.

I am sure someone would argue then why do we celebrate MLK Jr Day? Or why aren't other historical figures given a month instead of a day. Its a complicated divide and this goes for the white and black communities. I taught a predominatly minority class and they were insulted that some teachers would only teach Black poets, Black historians, Black musicians during BHM, and that is understandable. It depends how the the month is approached and in my honest opinion I believe that more so than not BHM is exploited, and gives off the feeling that this dude talks about "One month for Black History/education, 11 Months for "white" history/education.

I for one can appreciate Black History Month but at the same time, I believe it gives some people of color excuses as to why they arent doing big things. Im sick of hearing "the white man held us down". Most of us dont even know if our grands or great grands were slaves, and even if they were then what does that have to do with now? People need to be held accountable for their actions and grow up, take responsibility, and stop blaming the white man for every single problem in their lives. They are the ones making our black leaders accomplishments seem as if they were done in vain.

Some people are ignorant, and when I say they are ignorant i'm not saying it to be insulting but to say that they just don't know. Personally, I feel that Black History Month is just not enough, and relying on all black people to do their own research and learn about their history is a shot in the dark because to us if it is not important at the moment we take very little care to it. I think that we need our own black history channel dedicated to nothing but teaching us our history kind of similar to the History Channel but giving us history about our culture, our inventors, a more in dept look into the civil rights movement, jim crow laws, and slavery to name a few. As for the video, you will always have nay sayers in life the best thing is to appreciate their opinions and keep it moving.

I think he is right to a point. I personally hated getting taught black history in one month and then taught all other kinds of history every other month. We would also go over the same people. It wasn't till I was in my late teens that I myself seen the other people who impacted history just as much as the big names.
I do think the month is still needed though because there are white people who don't know any of this information of black history or people and they need the exposure.

This dude isn't racist, but he is a bit naive. I agree that black history is american, but there are so many white americans who do not care include where blacks were at during each portion of american histry. same goes for hispanics. Mexicans didn't just show up in the last few years, but what was their experience in the 1920s or 1950s? Until school systems incorporate our stories into history books and require that it be taught along side all the other historical moments- we need black history month!

black history month is stupid. nobody cares. white people dont run around talking about their history and even if they did black people wouldnt care. why should anyone give a crap about a history that had nothing to do with them

I agree with this line by line. Sorry. I never really got the concept of Black History Month. In high school we learned about the same NIGGAS. MLK, WEB Dubois, Frederick Douglas, and other people we just skimmed thru. Blah blah slavery. lol....never really understood it sorry!

you've never had anyone really teach you the history- thats why you dont think its important. Black history is so much more than slavery and civil rights- just like american history is more than just the american revolution and the civil war. There are so many more relevant figures than the ones you named- which are the ones that most kids learned about. The N-word is unacceptable to anyone has a true understanding of where black people have been and what we are striving to be. Ignorant is not that.
